X.500 (OSI Protocols)

X.500 is a set of standards for directory services developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It provides a way to organize and retrieve information about network resources, such as users, computers, and printers. X.500 is designed to work with the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) networking model and is used in larger enterprise environments to manage and organize directory and authentication services. X.500 has been largely superseded by the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), which is more lightweight and easier to implement.
