How does Lightcast define a skill?
Gigabit Ethernet

Gigabit Ethernet is a type of high-speed network technology that requires specialized skills in network configuration, installation, and troubleshooting. It involves the use of advanced networking equipment and optimized network protocols to achieve data transfer rates of up to 1 Gbps (gigabit per second). As such, individuals who specialize in Gigabit Ethernet must possess a deep understanding of networking concepts, cabling and wiring techniques, and network protocols to effectively design, deploy, and maintain Gigabit Ethernet networks.

IEEE 802.11 is a standard for wireless local area networks (WLANs) developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This standard specifies the protocols for wireless communication between devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and routers, using radio waves in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. The standard also defines different versions of the protocol, such as 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac, which have different speeds and range capabilities. Understanding and working with these protocols requires specialized skills and knowledge.

The RTP Control Protocol (RTCP) is a protocol used in conjunction with the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) for providing feedback on the quality of service (QoS) in multimedia communication sessions. This feedback helps to optimize the transmission of audio and video data, and to monitor traffic congestion in order to avoid packet loss and delay. RTCP operates as a control channel, separate from RTP, and is typically used to provide periodic reports on the media stream, such as packet loss rate, jitter, and round-trip time (RTT). Understanding RTCP requires knowledge of RTP and network traffic management protocols.

Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax, is a wireless networking standard that improves network speed, efficiency, and capacity. It involves understanding the technical specifications, managing high-density environments, and optimizing device performance. Skills include configuring Wi-Fi 6 routers, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and understanding backward compatibility with older Wi-Fi standards. Knowledge of OFDMA, MU-MIMO technologies, and 1024-QAM modulation is essential.

Wireless Engineering refers to the design, development, and implementation of wireless communication systems and technologies. This skill encompasses knowledge of radio frequency principles, signal propagation, and network architecture, which enable the establishment of reliable wireless connections. Wireless Engineering is used to optimize communication networks for various applications, including mobile telephony, satellite communications, and wireless local area networks, by ensuring efficient data transmission and minimizing interference.
