How does Lightcast design a skill?
Engineering Design Process

The Engineering Design Process is a systematic and iterative approach to solving problems and creating solutions. It involves defining a problem, brainstorming possible solutions, evaluating and selecting the most promising ideas, prototyping and testing, refining and improving the design, and finally implementing and communicating the solution. It requires creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills, as well as technical knowledge and expertise in various engineering disciplines. Successful application of the Engineering Design Process leads to effective and efficient solutions that meet the desired performance, cost, safety, and environmental requirements.

Finite Element Methods (FEM) is a mathematical tool used in engineering and physics to model and analyze complex systems. It involves breaking down a system into smaller, simpler parts and then using numerical methods to solve equations that describe the behavior of those parts. FEM is used to predict the behavior of material structures under different loads, simulate fluid and heat flow in pipes and containers, and design components such as vehicles and machinery. It requires a specialized skill set including knowledge of computer programming, numerical analysis, and mathematical modeling.

Stress Analysis refers to the process of evaluating the effects of applied forces on materials and structures to determine their strength and stability. This skill encompasses the use of mathematical models and simulations to predict how materials will respond under various loading conditions. Knowledge of Stress Analysis is used to identify potential failure points, optimize design, and ensure safety and reliability in engineering applications across various industries.

Stress Engineering refers to the analysis and evaluation of materials and structures under various load conditions to ensure their integrity and performance. This skill involves applying principles of mechanics and material science to predict how components will respond to stress, strain, and fatigue over time. Knowledge of Stress Engineering is used to design safer and more reliable products in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and civil engineering by identifying potential failure points and optimizing structural designs.

Structural Analysis refers to the process of assessing and evaluating the stability, strength, and behavior of structures under various loads and conditions. This skill involves the application of mathematical and physical principles to predict how structures will respond to forces such as gravity, wind, and seismic activity. Knowledge of Structural Analysis is used to ensure that buildings, bridges, and other constructions are designed safely and efficiently, enabling engineers to identify potential issues and optimize structural integrity.
