How does Lightcast define a skill?
Computational Science And Engineering

Computational Science and Engineering is a specialized field that focuses on developing and applying computational methods to solve complex problems across various fields of science and engineering. It involves using advanced computing tools, techniques and algorithms to analyze, model, and simulate complex systems, help design new products, and develop innovative technologies. The field includes a wide range of applications including modeling biological systems, developing new materials, analyzing climate patterns, designing aerospace systems, and much more. It is an interdisciplinary field that combines elements of computer science, mathematics, physics, and engineering.

Quantum error correction (QEC) is a set of techniques used in quantum computing to protect quantum information from errors due to decoherence and other quantum noise. Quantum error correction is theorised as essential to achieve fault tolerant quantum computing that can reduce the effects of noise on stored quantum information, faulty quantum gates, faulty quantum state preparation, and faulty measurements. Effective quantum error correction would allow quantum computers with low qubit fidelity to execute algorithms of higher complexity or greater circuit depth.

Quantum Information refers to the study and application of information processing using quantum mechanics principles. This skill encompasses the understanding of quantum bits, or qubits, which can exist in multiple states simultaneously, enabling advanced computational capabilities. Knowledge of Quantum Information is used to develop algorithms for quantum computing, enhance secure communication through quantum cryptography, and improve data processing efficiency in various scientific and technological fields.

Quantum machine learning is the integration of quantum algorithms within machine learning programs.

Superconducting Qubits refers to the use of superconducting circuits to create quantum bits for quantum computing applications. Superconducting Qubits operate at cryogenic temperatures and exploit quantized energy levels in Josephson junctions to encode and manipulate quantum information. This skill involves the design, fabrication, control, and measurement of these qubits to perform quantum logic operations. It supports the development of scalable quantum processors for computational tasks.
