Graduate Career Explorer
Empowering Students with Data-Driven Insight to Navigate High-Value Career Paths

The University of Huddersfield sought to strengthen how students make career decisions by connecting academic choices more clearly to labor market outcomes. Many students lacked visibility into how degree options translate into employment opportunities and which skills employers are actively seeking. The university needed a student-facing application that could present real-world labor market demand in a way that supports informed career planning. Lightcast partnered with the University of Huddersfield to power the Grad Career Explorer using labor market data on occupations, skills, demand, and career pathways, enabling students to explore how their studies align with current and emerging job opportunities.
The resulting application improved employability by helping students understand the relationship between their degree programs and real-world career outcomes. Students used the tool to compare career options, identify in-demand skills, and make more informed decisions about their academic and professional paths. For the institution, the project illustrates an effective educational use case for labor market data, strengthening career guidance services and reinforcing the connection between education, skills development, and workforce demand.
