Lightcast Connects Trusted Labor Market Intelligence to AI with “ASK” and MCP

MOSCOW, Idaho (October 20, 2026)—Lightcast, the world’s most trusted provider of labor market intelligence, today announced two new capabilities designed to improve the quality and reliability of AI workflows used to gather information and make decisions: *ASK and the Lightcast MCP server.

*ASK is a conversational AI experience in the Lightcast Analyst platform, serving users across HR, public sector, and education. Users can ask questions in natural language and get reliable, defensible answers linked to the underlying Analyst report, so they can explore the evidence themselves and deepen their analysis. The Lightcast MCP server connects AI assistants to Lightcast’s global labor market data, enabling organizations to find reliable, evidence-based answers with the AI tools they already use.

AI's ability to deliver useful answers depends on the quality of the data behind them. For leaders making decisions about training, location planning, hiring, or any other workforce strategy, incomplete or inconsistent information can lead to misleading conclusions. Using trusted data from Lightcast, organizations can be sure their decisions are based on the best intelligence possible.

New Lightcast research underscores why trusted data matters in AI. In tests across three leading AI models, Lightcast found that AI assistants relying on web searches provided answers that appeared credible at first, but in fact they lacked specific, current information needed for workforce decisions. When connected to Lightcast labor market data, the average answer-quality scores improved from 57 to 82 out of 100. When asked for a specific labor market figure, the AI models provided it 92% of the time with Lightcast, compared with just 35% using AI web search alone.

"AI is making it easier than ever to get an answer, but that doesn't mean it's the right answer," said Jennifer Seith, Chief Product Officer at Lightcast. "When organizations make decisions about their workforce, they need more than a confident response. They require evidence they can understand, explore, and defend. We're making it easier for organizations to bring trusted labor market data into the tools they use and the decisions they make."

ASK: Conversational AI with Defensible Data

Lightcast is introducing a new way for users to engage with its intelligence, combining the simplicity of a conversation with the analytical depth of the Lightcast Analyst Platform (including Analyst, Talent Analyst, and Developer).

With *ASK, users can start with the workforce question they want to answer, rather than first determining which report, dataset, filter, or taxonomy to navigate. A user might ask, “What AI skills does a software developer need?” or “Where is demand for this role growing fastest?” and receive relevant insights from Lightcast data, with clear visibility into the underlying data. Responses link directly to the Analyst report it comes from, allowing users to explore the data, adjust their analysis, and build on what they've learned using the tools they already know.

This connection between conversational discovery and deeper analysis is central to *ASK's design. Customers told Lightcast they wanted the speed and accessibility of AI without sacrificing reliability. Rather than a black box that provides answers without evidence, *ASK gives users a clear path from a question to the data and analysis behind the answer.

For both new and existing users of Analyst products, *ASK provides a more intuitive starting point for complex questions.

Lightcast MCP: Bringing Trusted Global Intelligence to the AI Tools Organizations Already Use

While *ASK brings conversational AI into the Lightcast Analyst Platform, the Lightcast MCP server makes that same trusted data available directly to AI assistants.

Built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI systems to outside data and tools, the server enables AI agents to query Lightcast labor market data directly, rather than relying on training data or web search results. When a user asks a workforce question, their AI can use the MCP to identify the appropriate dataset, apply consistent definitions for occupations and skills, and retrieve relevant figures on hiring demand, wages, talent supply, and labor market trends.

For example, someone could ask an AI assistant which skills are most in demand for software developers, how wages compare across regions, or how many postings for sales jobs have been listed over the past three months. Connected to the Lightcast MCP, the assistant can draw on structured labor market data and provide answers with defined sources and time periods.

Lightcast research found that connecting AI to its data improved answers across every category of workforce question tested. The strongest gains were in questions related to skill demand and geographic comparisons, where specific, current data with consistent definitions is difficult to find through conventional web search.

For organizations increasingly incorporating AI into their workflows, the MCP provides a flexible way to bring trusted labor market evidence directly into the systems where workforce decisions are being made.

Better AI Starts with Better Data

Together, *ASK and the Lightcast MCP represent two ways to make labor market intelligence more accessible: bringing conversational AI into Lightcast's platform and making Lightcast data accessible through external AI tools.

Both address the same challenge: as organizations increasingly rely on AI to inform hiring, skills development, and workforce planning, they need intelligence they can trust.

Having an answer that sounds right is not the same as having trusted intelligence. By bringing defensible labor market insights into AI experiences, Lightcast is providing organizations with data that can test, understand, and explore, so that they can plan for the future with confidence.
