How does Lightcast design a skill?
AWS Lambda

AWS Lambda is a serverless compute service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) that allows you to run code in response to events and triggers such as changes to data in an Amazon S3 bucket, API Gateway requests, or even scheduled events. It eliminates the need to provision and manage servers, and you only pay for the compute time that is actually consumed by your code. As a specialized skill, proficiency in AWS Lambda involves understanding of AWS services, programming languages such as Python or Node.js, and event-driven architectures.

Amazon API Gateway refers to a cloud service for creating, publishing, and managing application programming interfaces that connect client applications with backend services. It is used to route requests, control access, apply request limits, and support data transformation and monitoring for service interactions. In work contexts, it is applied to build and operate secure interfaces for web, mobile, and internal systems.

Cloud Firestore refers to a cloud based document database skill used to store, organize, and retrieve application data in a flexible structure. It is applied in software development to support data synchronization, real time updates, and scalable access across web and mobile applications. The skill includes designing data models, performing queries, and managing records for reliable application behavior.

Serverless Computing is a type of cloud computing where the cloud provider manages the infrastructure and all the resources required to run a piece of code. This allows developers to focus on writing code without worrying about the underlying infrastructure. To effectively use serverless computing, developers need to have specialized skills in serverless architecture and serverless frameworks. They also need to understand how to optimize their code for performance and scalability in a serverless environment.

The Serverless Framework is a web framework written using Node.js. Serverless is the first framework developed for building applications on AWS Lambda, a serverless computing platform provided by Amazon as a part of Amazon Web Services. Currently, applications developed with Serverless can be deployed to other function as a service providers, including Microsoft Azure with Azure Functions, IBM Bluemix with IBM Cloud Functions based on Apache OpenWhisk, Google Cloud using Google Cloud Functions, Oracle Cloud using Oracle Fn, Kubeless based on Kubernetes, Spotinst and Webtask by Auth0.
