We would like to announce the final release of our Q1 2010 dataset. Compared to our previous 2009 Q4 release, the current version represents a major update that uses more recent source data and some updated methodologies.

Below are the release notes, which you can also find in PDF form here.

Changes Compared to “Beta” Release

On February 17 we released a beta version of this dataset. This final release corrects an issue in the beta version which affected staffing patterns primarily in the following industries: Hunting, Fishing and Trapping; Agriculture (except Logging); and Private Households. The most affected occupations (by total jobs) were Maids and Housekeeping Cleaners, Child Care Workers, and Personal and Home Care Aides.

Changes Compared to 2009 Q4 Release

Most of the changes, compared to the previous dataset, can be found in the following areas:

•    All occupation data, 2001-2019, including the industry/occupation staffing patterns. It is normal for our past-year occupation numbers to change due to updated data sources and, in this case, improved estimation methodologies.
•    2009 numbers and 2010-2019 industry employment projections (due to more recent data)

Updated Data Sources

•    National Industry/Occupation Employment Matrix, 2008-18 (Bureau of Labor Statistics [BLS])
•    Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, Q2 2009 (BLS)
•    Current Employment Statistics, November 2009 (BLS)
•    Updated state industry projections: Montana, Ohio, and Oregon (state agencies)
•    Demographics: National/State Population Estimates 2009 (Census Bureau)
•    Indicators: Local Area Unemployment Statistics (BLS), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (Census), Median Rent Estimates (HUD), Housing Units Estimates (Census), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data (FFIEC/HUD) Methodology Changes
•    Improvements to estimation of missing values in staffing patterns and occupation jobs totals
•    Improvements to demographics model

Additional Note

Because of changes to the National Industry/Occupation Employment Matrix, we no longer have data for the following detailed occupations: Agricultural Equipment Operators (45-2091); Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery, and Greenhouse (45-2092); Farmworkers, Farm and Ranch Animals (45-2093); and Agricultural Workers, All Other (45-2099). We do, however, have data for the broad occupation that includes all these types of workers—Miscellaneous Agricultural Workers (45-2090).
