Employ Prince George's

Walter L. Simmons is the Founding President & CEO of Employ Prince George’s, Inc. and the Executive Director of the Prince George’s County Workforce Development Board. Walter partnered with Prince George’s County Government and the Prince George’s County Workforce Development Board to start Employ Prince George’s and redesign the Prince George’s County Public Workforce System in 2018. Along with celebrating five years of service in 2023, Walter was also honored by the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals as the 2023 Workforce Development Professional of the Year. 

Under Walter’s leadership Employ Prince George’s and the Prince George’s County Workforce Development Board created the first local public workforce system in the United States designed as a free membership network, the Prince George’s County American Job Center Community Network. Since 2018, Walter has led Employ Prince George’s in serving over 90,000 job seekers, 8,500 businesses, leading to over 15,000 residents securing employment. During his tenure Employ Prince George’s and the Prince George’s County Workforce Development Board have one numerous awards, including the National Association of Workforce Boards 2022 WIOA Trailblazer Award.

Walter is a board member for multiple local, state, and national organizations. Nationally, Walter is the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals and a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Workforce Boards. In Maryland, he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Workforce Association, and the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Along with national honors, Walter has also been recognized as One of the Most Admired CEOs in Maryland, one of Maryland’s Most Influential Professionals, and a Washington Business Journal 40 under 40.
