Become a Data Pro
A 3-part online series designed to help you better understand, interpret, and apply Lightcast data.
About the Series
Become a Data Pro is a three-part series designed to help Lightcast customers develop a deeper understanding of our data and gain greater confidence in using it. From learning the basics of how we build and organize our data, to the huge variety of labor market questions it can be applied to, these 45-minute sessions will give you greater confidence in the data you are using, the insights it generates, and how to apply them in your work.
Customers who attend the whole series will receive a Lightcast Data Pro certificate.
Session 1: The Building Blocks of Labor Market Intelligence
How do we know what's really happening in the labor market? In this session, we'll explore the signals that help us understand the world of work, from job postings and online profiles to government statistics and company data. You'll learn how different sources capture different labor market signals, why no single dataset can tell the whole story, and how Lightcast brings them together to create a holistic and granular view of the workforce that is greater than the sum of its parts. We'll also explore the gap between signals and reality, and what it means for interpreting workforce trends.
By the end of the session, you'll have a stronger understanding of where LMI comes from, how we build it, and how to evaluate the insights it provides.

Session 2: The Language of Labor Market Intelligence
How do you make sense of billions of datapoints with thousands of job titles, skills, companies, and occupations across the labor market? In this session, we'll explore the taxonomies and classification systems that bring structure to workforce data. You'll learn how common definitions reduce noise, create a shared language across datasets, and make it possible to measure, compare, and analyze the world of work at scale. We'll also examine how Lightcast organizes labor market data and the principles that make a taxonomy useful, consistent, and reliable.
By the end of the session, you'll have a much clearer picture of how the organization of our data powers the insights you use.

Session 3: The Applications of Labor Market Intelligence
How do you turn labor market questions into data-driven answers? In this session, we'll explore how Labor Market Intelligence can be used to tackle the real-world workforce challenges your organization faces. Beginning with a common framework for approaching labor market questions, you'll then join one of three sector-specific sessions – Education, Public Sector, or Enterprise – to explore practical examples of how Lightcast data is being used to inform decisions, answer critical questions, and solve challenges unique to each sector.
By the end of the session, you'll be better equipped to use our data to answer the questions that matter most to your organization.
