Emsi Adds Descriptions to Its Open Source Skills Library

We’re excited to announce that the Emsi Skills library now has skills descriptions! These new, detailed descriptions help you understand each skill better. The skill pages have the following information:

  • Skill description (plus a link to Wikipedia where you can see even more details)

  • Related skills

  • Top job titles that require this skill

  • Top companies posting for this skill

  • Sample live job postings for this skill

  • Job posting trends for this skill over the last year

A note about related skills: We pull these skills from actual job postings, based on how frequently they show up alongside the skill you are currently searching, so you can trust they are truly applicable.

For example, related skills for JavaScript (Programming Language) include Angular (Web Framework), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and HyperText Markup Language (HTML).

Emsi Skills can help jobseekers (and everyone)

Emsi Skills is a great tool for jobseekers writing their resumes. Skills can make or break a resume, so checking our skills library for definitions and related skills assures that your resume is an accurate depiction of what you can bring to the table.

Hiring managers writing job descriptions can also use Emsi Skills to make sure they include the exact skills they want—not too many, not too few.

And finally, Emsi Skills is ideal for learning providers writing curriculum summaries. When you include the right skills in your program description, you can attract the right students. Those skills will in turn give students a clear understanding of their abilities as they enter the workforce.

About Emsi Skills

Emsi skills is an open-source library of over 30,000 skills sourced from job postings and resumes. Our goal with this data is to connect three main audiences: 1) people looking for work, 2) employers looking for people, and 3) colleges and universities looking to connect students to the workforce—all using the common language of skills.
