This is the fifth post of a weekly series where I will be sharing tech skills that are trending in Emsi’s job postings data. Last week, I talked about Terraform. Emsi is a labor market analytics firm that continuously searches millions of job postings across the web. Today’s trending tech skill is Tensorflow.

12-month growth rate in unique postings for Tensorflow: 153%

What is Tensorflow? In short, Tensorflow is an open-source deep learning framework released by Google in 2015. Okay, what is deep learning? Deep learning is an application of machine learning where the models essentially teach themselves, rather than relying on a human to step in and make adjustments. So machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence and deep learning is a subset of machine learning.

Wired describes deep learning as “the rocket fuel of the current AI boom.” So in other words, Tensorflow is a framework that makes it easier to build and train the deep learning models behind the explosion of artificial intelligence we’re enjoying in our daily lives.

Figure 3. Top Companies Posting Tensorflow Jobs (August 2017 to Date)

The table below shows the in-demand skills around Tensorflow from job postings side-by-side with the actual skills of people currently employed with the skill Tensorflow on their profile. This data is available in Analyst, where we’ve combined our job posting data with detailed employment data from over 106 million professional profiles.

And just for fun, when we search for deep learning jobs, guess what we see? Tensorflow is the 5th most frequent skill in deep learning jobs. So in other words, Tensorflow is the top deep learning framework.
