Webinar Recap: Supporting San Diego’s Defense Ecosystem

Emsi and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation co-hosted a webinar last week discussing San Diego’s defense ecosystem, which accounts for 20% of the metro’s GRP.

The San Diego Regional EDC worked with Emsi to create a visual platform illustrating the opportunities and trends associated with defense spending. The platform helps the EDC open conversations with businesses, city planners, workforce agencies, and economic development organizations.

The tool also showcases granular information on the industry’s supply chain, defense contracts, and business impacts, which helps the EDC prioritize its limited resources to support the region’s defense industry.

“Understanding annual procurement amounts within our region and how that impacts our companies is very valuable as we think about programming that we need to develop from both a workforce standpoint and a transactional level with individual firms,” said Jesse Gipe, senior manager of economic development for the San Diego Regional EDC.
