In today’s fast-changing labor market, actionable workforce intelligence is a vital tool for higher education institutions, economic and workforce developers, and employers. That’s why Lightcast is pleased to announce a significant update to our professional profiles dataset, made possible through the recent addition of Stratigens, a UK-based leader in strategic decision intelligence, to the Lightcast family.

These new data enrichments include improvements in both the breadth (number of profiles) and depth (data insights) of Lightcast profile data. Here’s an overview of these updates, and what they mean for you.

Expanding the Reach: 43.7% Growth in Global Profiles

First, we’ve significantly expanded the number of profiles in our dataset, with global coverage increasing by 43.7% – providing enriched data for workforce planning and analysis across the world.

Here’s a breakdown of the impact for a few of the core regions where many of our customers operate:

  • Canada: +27.04%

  • United Kingdom: +5.57%

  • United States: +3.49%

And here are a few of the countries experiencing the largest increase in profile coverage by volume:

  • United Kingdom: +16 million

  • India: +14.4 million

  • Brazil: +8 million

These updated profile counts are available now in all Lightcast products that include access to the Lightcast Profiles dataset, including Talent Analyst, Developer, Education Analyst, and Alumni Pathways.

New Dimensions of Insight

The integration of Stratigens data and technology has also allowed us to bring new enrichments to our profiles data, unlocking additional insight into workforce dynamics. These new data fields include:

1) Years of Experience:

  • Understand the average years of experience for specific cohorts, such as software engineers at a major tech company.

2) Tenure and Internal Transitions:

  • Analyze average tenure at specific companies.

  • Track mobility within organizations, identifying companies with the most dynamic internal career paths.

3) Transitions

  • Gain insight into attrition trends, including which companies are losing employees and where those individuals are going.

Note: Currently, these new data fields are accessible via our API and Snowflake integrations.

Empowering Higher Education, Employers, and the Public Sector

Profile data is a critical tool for understanding the education, skills, and career pathways of working professionals. With the latest expansion and enrichments to this dataset, Lightcast is pleased to provide even more insight to enable data-driven alumni research, workforce planning, and talent strategy for organizations across the globe.

For Higher Education:

  • Program Review: Understand the evolving career trajectories of alumni to identify top employers, jobs, and skills for graduates of each of your programs.

  • Industry Partnerships: Identify top employers of your programs’ graduates and identify key contacts for strategic partnership opportunities (e.g. internship programs, cooperatives, or an alumni speaker series).

  • Marketing & Recruitment: Gather evidence of alumni success to leverage in marketing campaigns, or identify working professionals who could benefit from graduate and professional education offerings.

For Employers:

  • Recruitment Optimization: Identify talent supply, where talent is located, what skills they have, and what companies employ them. Use this data to pinpoint talent hotspots, evaluate demand for niche skills, and refine your job postings with the right title, skill profile, and compensation.

  • Retention Strategies: Analyze tenure and attrition trends, as well as skill paths, to address employee retention challenges proactively, targeting career growth by upskilling strategically and reducing skills gaps.

  • Competitive Benchmarking: Compare internal mobility and attrition rates, compensation, and posting trends for in-demand positions against competitors, as well as identify where your organization holds a competitive skills advantage, to develop comprehensive workforce planning strategies.

For Public Sector Organizations:

  • Identify Skill Gaps: Comparing profile data to employer demand signals can illuminate regional skill gaps with unequaled precision, informing workforce strategies and investments to close those gaps.

  • Economic Development: Leverage insight into workforce skills and educational backgrounds to demonstrate available talent and attract, or retain, key employers to your region.
